Is there more than one type of Copilot?

While in most cases, people refer to the AI embedded in Microsoft 365 or Dynamics 365 when they talk about Copilot, there are multiple types of Copilot. Microsoft has invested in AI, leading to a suite of innovative solutions. 

Other Copilots include: 

  • Windows Copilot – centralised AI support within the Windows platform. 
  • Sales Copilot – designed for Sales teams to efficiently manage their pipeline and close deals. 
  • Dynamics 365 Copilot – integrates with Dynamics 365 for improved customer relationship management. 
  • Security Copilot – secures your systems and protects data with the power of AI. 
  • GitHub Copilot – supports developers in the completion and quality control of code. 
  • Power Platform Copilot – assists with building apps within the Power Platform. 
  • Copilot for Microsoft Fabric– supports the creation of data flows within Power BI. 

How do I get Microsoft Copilot?

To get Copilot in your Microsoft apps, you need a Copilot for Microsoft 365 licence.  

Microsoft Copilot does also have a free version, which acts as an AI chatbot you can ask questions. This is a good way to explore some of Copilot’s capability before you invest in a licence. 

How much will Microsoft Copilot cost?

Microsoft Copilot is offered as an add-on license. First, you must have a Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 licence, Office 365 E3 or E5 licence or Microsoft 365 Business Standard or Business Premium licence.  

Prices for the add-on Copilot licence start from £27.40 per user per month. 

The exception is Copilot for Dynamics 365, as this is included as part of your Dynamics licensing at no extra cost. 

Other Copilots, such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot for Security and Sales Copilot, will require different licences, so we recommend checking Microsoft’s website for pricing information. 

Is there a free version of Copilot?

Yes, there is. However, it only offers a small sample of the functionality available in Copilot. It won’t give you benefits like being able to search across your organisational data or use Copilot within your existing Microsoft tools. 

The free version is more like a chatbot you can ask natural-language questions to get prompt responses. It’s a great way to experiment with Copilot and learn more about AI until you’re ready to invest in a licence.

Microsoft Copilot is designed with a strong emphasis on security. It adheres to the same privacy, security and compliance standards as Microsoft 365, ensuring protection of sensitive business data.
